From Fr. Bernard

Dear All,

I need to begin this week with some sad news that will be making its way around the parish. Our dear friend Maggi Stannard died on Thursday the 16th, after many years of ill health following her severe stroke some twenty years ago. This is sad news for we who knew her, and for her family and friends, but of course, while sad, it is also, for Maggi, an entry into a new life, freed from the constraints of this one, in which she is now united with those, like Russell, whom she lost in years past.
When I have more information about funeral arrangements and the like, I will pass them on to you all. In the meantime, please remember to pray for Maggi, who was such a faithful and longstanding member of the congregation, and also for her family in their grief and loss.

I must also remind you of the concert in church this evening, at which Leighton Buzzard Music will present the Resol String Quartet in a concert at 7:30 pm, playing music by Coleridge Taylor, Bax and Elgar. Tickets are £19, and are available on the door.

The concert presents an opportunity for the stimulation of classical music. By contrast, on Sunday, you have the contrasting but allied opportunities for stimulation offered by our All-Age Eucharist at 10 am, and our Annual Parish meetings that will follow it in the hall after the usual refreshments!

At the Parish meetings we will elect Churchwardens and members to our Parochial Church Council, and also to Dunstable Deanery Synod, as well as discussing the life of our parish over the past year, and approving our annual accounts. Please do stay for these, and please also consider whether or not you might be able to volunteer to stand for election to one of these roles.

This website has not just the Cross and Crown for the week, and the Order of Service for 10 am, but also the Annual Report booklet, which contains all the information you need for those Annual Meetings. It is really helpful if you read them beforehand. They won’t be read out on the day!

Other services this week comprise our usual 8 am Eucharist on Sunday, as well as Eucharists at 9:30 am on Wednesday, 10 am on Thursday, and 8:30 pm on Friday, following the Bible Book Club meeting in the Saunders Room at 7 pm, when we will be discussing the Revelation of St John. The Standing Committee meets at 8 pm on Thursday.

Lastly, advance notice that on Saturday the 25th the Leighton Buzzard Festival Singers celebrate their 75th anniversary with a performance of The Armed Man: a Mass for Peace by Karl Jenkins at 7:30 pm in St Barnabas. Tickets are £18, available from the Singers website or on the door.

Thank you, and God bless

Fr Bernard
